ABOUT MARTA

Passionate About Living Authentically

I am a certified existential coach. I work with women in their 30s, 40s and 50s who are experiencing changes in their physical, social, personal, and spiritual lives.

I started out as a sociologist. After getting my doctorate, I worked in academia for almost 20 years. It was fine but it always felt wrong. In 2016 I became a certified Primal Health Coach and more recently I was awarded a PG Diploma in Existential Coaching from the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling in London. I have 20 years of experience researching and writing about human social life, and 7 years of applying the knowledge practically in my coaching work with people.

I believe that truly knowing yourself is the key to a good life. This is where existential coaching can help you see yourself as a miracle to be discovered, not a problem to be solved.

I spent a long time feeling uncomfortable in the world. As a child, I found safety in books and temporary solitude. I even hid in the wardrobe to escape the constant scrutiny of my family! But if you looked at my official record, I was what they call a ‘good girl’. A bit weird but good. From a young age I knew that I was expected to be smart, talented, well-behaved, and pretty. In other words, the script for ‘me’ was created by other people.

The only way I could describe my life would be this: imagine wearing beautiful shoes but there’s a tiny sharp rock inside one of them. The rock moves around as you walk. Sometimes it doesn’t bother you but most of the time it causes pain and discomfort. You carry on walking because you do not feel you can stop and get it out. When it hurts too much, you stop and feel stuck.

Why not just remove the rock? Maybe you don’t deserve it. Maybe there’s never the right time. Maybe others will judge you. What if you threw away the beautiful shoes? What if you went barefoot? Granted, you will still step on rocks, sharp sticks, and your feet may hurt. But at least you’ll see where you’re going and it will be your decision.

Throwing away the pretty shoes is hard. It takes time. But it is possible. My story is not the typical ‘before and after’. I am still a little ‘before’ and a little ‘after’, and something in between. We can’t get rid of our old selves completely, but we can befriend them and make them work for us and not against us. This is what I can do for you. I will help you figure out why you’re stuck in your pretty shoes and what you want to do about it.
